Nonviolence Resolution

WHEREAS: As a racial justice organization our goal is to act in support of equity and racial healing

WHEREAS: Racism, poverty, and white hoarding of opportunity contribute to violence

WHEREAS: The history of slavery and the history of policing are intertwined, a connection that sometimes plays out in biased and violent policing to this day

WHEREAS: Protest of racist systems, (civil disobedience, demonstrations, demands for justice, or any action that interrupts our daily rhythm in an attempt to raise tension) are in fact truthtelling, pleas for recognition of the subtle and overt violence of marginalization

WHEREAS: Protests of racist systems are often misrepresented as unjustified acts of violence

WHEREAS: Allowing this misconception to stand often results in real physical violence that further exacerbates the oppression

RESOLUTION: That we will openly recognize and name the tension, addressing it nonviolently with honest talk and direct, nonviolent action.

RESOLUTION: That we will not demand polite, surface-level peace but instead insist on honest dialogue to learn about root causes of violence

RESOLUTION: That we will consciously work to understand our own role in reducing the conditions that fuel violence

RESOLUTION: That we will ACT to interrupt systems of racism that fuel violence

RESOLUTION: That we will share this knowledge with others to create a movement of white allies working toward peace and equity so all can thrive.
